Individuals who are unwilling to spend the necessary time with “vi” and or “vim” will many times assign a Dirty Word to it’s name. However, if one is willing to spend the necessary time with the visual editor, they will quickly learn it is one of the most powerful utilities packaged in every UNIX and or Linux operating system today. The short presentation will cover why everyone should learn this character based editor, its 3 modes of operation, some of the major differences between vi and vim and the basics of creating, modifying and saving text files.
